This is a great book with exact patterns possible. However, in case you might have missed the description, this book is a reprint of a book from 1953. It is from an era-gone-by of line drawing art where the patterns are re-drawn (by you) to the size you want by using the square inch graph paper system. It is NOT the same kind of visual guide as a modern day full size pattern or say..."Apronology" for instance with its luscious color close ups and angle photos.
If you are primarily a "visual only" crafter/seamstress as my young friend who learned her craft wonderfully well online and off you-tube(and who does beautiful and very creative work with her straight from inspiration-only photo system) you might want to re-read the book description before purchasing this book.
I on the other hand now have a copy of "How to make Aprons" and am delighted with it!In short it is all in the eyes of the beholder LOL!
I did give the book 4 stars instead of 5 stars because I think my young friend had a good point when she stated that it would have made for a better all-round product if they had added a colored photo of each finished apron to their 1953 reprint, perhaps opening it up to a wider target audience, such as those like herself.

How to Make Aprons Vintage Patterns for Making Home Garden Utility and Craft Aprons Roxa Wright 9781936049554 Books Reviews

The moment I took this book out of it's package, I was transported into the past reading the interesting history of the many apron styles featured in this fabulous book. Bathing aprons, mother-daughter pinafores and one-yard aprons are a few of the styles that are found among the pages, along with these patterns, sometimes offered in muliple sizes, you will find an explaination of the apron's purpose and valuable suggestions when making an apron, from the type of fabric to select to the colors that would work best for the given apron style.
I have never created a pattern for a garment using a graph prior to using the patterns and instructions in this book, however, I found the process quite easy and was pleased with the outcome of my first apron...so much so, I am anxious to make another. If you are a sewer or a crafter or a apron diva, you will love the many vintage patterns found inside this book.
As expained in the book, these aprons are great to make for yourself, for gifts and for fundraising or charity! An absolute must have for any level of sewer.
As someone who currently sews and sells vintage reproduction aprons, I can definitely say this book knocked my socks off. The amount of patterns versus the price of the book makes it a standout and worth every penny!

"How to Make Aprons" from Bramcost Publications is a very clean reproduction of a book printed in 1953, which I highly recommend if you collect or sew aprons. With original text and pictures (all line drawings) it is a wonderful representation of the apron variety and use in the 1950's. Amazingly, there are over 40 apron and some accessory patterns included, set up as small graph charts that are very simple to enlarge with either a graph fabric or on large paper with a ruler and some time.

The variety of patterns will please most apron or sewing aficionados, ranging from smock aprons to pinafore, cobbler and bib type aprons, one-yard aprons or terry-towel washing-up aprons. There are also versions for children and men, as well as for activities such as gardening or sewing, and there are also applique and embroidery patterns included for embellishing. A major bonus is that many of the patterns come in a range of sizes or are easily adjusted per the directions. Sizes are plainly stated for each apron in either a waist or bust measurement. There is also a range of difficulty, with patterns to suit everyone from a beginning seamstress to an experienced one.

Directions for sewing are fairly clear, though they do suppose a certain amount of basic sewing knowledge. There are some simple directions near the back of the book for a few sewing techniques, like cutting and sewing bias binding, or sewing a false french seam, but novice seamstresses may still wish to purchase a basic sewing manual to go along with this book.

I have sewn one apron from this book so far, the terry-towel "Washing Apron" and it came out beautifully. It fit just as shown in the drawing and how it was described in the directions. I can't wait to sew more and add them to my arsenal of aprons - I will definitely be using this book again and again.
More than expected
Okay for ideas. Short on patterns, measurements
Helpful, I create my own patterns and this was a great guide.
